Understanding core principles in flap design, tissue management, and suturing are essential for biologically stable wound healing. These core principles will set up your surgery for consistent successful results, while reducing patient discomfort and reducing the risk of post-operative complications.
Objectives:
1. Learn various flap design options in dental surgery including implant dentistry;
2. Understand the importance of primary soft tissue wound closure for healing and treatment success;
3. Describe how to close a flap and maintain primary closure through the use periosteal releasing incisions;
4. Describe various suture materials currently available, and discus their key properties to assist in appropriate suture selection;
5. Provide key suturing techniques to aid in maintaining primary closure during wound healing.
Dr. Tina Kokosis has been a periodontist for over 14 years. Her enthusiasm as a periodontist becomes brighter every year. She takes pride in treating her patients with the utmost care and respect. From restoring periodontal health, to creating beautiful smiles and restoring patient’s confidence, Dr. Kokosis performs all aspects of periodontal and implant treatment while achieving meticulous results. From early on in her career, she understood the important role of mentor and educator. She has been a clinical instructor at the University of Toronto, and has lectured on the various topics of periodontal disease and management, flap and suture design, implant placement, and bone grafting, all across Canada.
Dr. Kokosis proudly received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at the University of Western Ontario, and her Master’s Degree in Periodontics at the prestigious Columbia University in New York City. She is a board-certified specialist in periodontics by the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Learning is a lifelong process, and Dr. Kokosis is always upgrading through countless continuing education courses each year.
